Ahlstrom Dragon Specialty Paper Mill Project

August 16, 2021- Meixin successfully commissioned its high-pressure water jet reel turn up system for the masking paper machine operated by Ahlstrom Dragon (Longkou) Specialty Paper Mill. The project has been put into smooth operation, significantly improving the automation level and operational efficiency of the paper machine's transfer section.

The paper machine involved in this retrofit has a paper width of 3650mm, an operating speed of 500 m/min, and primarily produces high-quality masking paper with a basis weight of 40–60g/m². In response to the machine's process characteristics and production requirements, Meixin provided a mature and reliable water jet reel turn up system, achieving fully automatic, high-efficiency, and low-waste transfer operations.

1.Water Jet Reel Turn Up System

Function:
The beam of Meixin's high-pressure water jet reel turn up system is installed at the upper part of the winder. The ultra-high-pressure water generation system produces high-pressure water, which is delivered through ultra-high-pressure nozzles to form high-quality cutting water jets. The transfer beam is equipped with two sets of cutting water jet heads. The water jets move at high speed to cut a paper tail tip, while simultaneously spraying an appropriate amount of adhesive onto the tip. When the paper tip contacts the new reel spool, it instantly adheres and widens to the full paper width, completing a high-quality transfer process.

This fully automatic transfer method effectively eliminates manual operations near the winder, greatly reducing the risk of entanglement and maximizing on-site operator safety. At the same time, the equipment is easy to operate, facilitating daily use and maintenance in the mill.

After change, the paper surface is smooth, and there is no wrinkling at the bottom of the spool. Compared to traditional transfer methods, this technology essentially eliminates waste paper caused by bottom wrinkles, effectively increasing production output.

The transfer success rate of Meixin's water jet reel turn up system is nearly 100%, significantly reducing web breaks and waste caused by failed transfers. According to actual operational data, this technology can effectively increase the overall paper yield by 0.5% to 3%, delivering sustained economic benefits to customers.
